please read my old postes, this is one of them, I am positive that you gonna get something useful. This is an private e-mail that I reply to a pronurse student and I would like to share to encourage you guys. Hopefully, it is helpful.
Hi! Oam First of all, I would like to say "Congratulations" for your first key step that make you feel wonderful. Please Keep this feeling to make you move forward like a wiseman says "One sucess brings another"
If you ask for some suggestions, my answers for that are short term plan and long term plan.
Let we start with long term plan. Because your NCLEX is valid in three year so you have two year to prepare you English. From now on you have to start reaching English standard. Why? from my experience. Thai nurses are faced with the same and serious problem which is English Proficiency, even me. Anyhow, It is obvious that Thai nurses are outstanding in nursing. Thanks to our nursing schools in Thailand that make me proud of. In the US, a nurse is the top in multidisciplinary team. you work as the same equal basis with doctors, Phamacists, Case manager and bla bla bla. If you work here you gonna feel great, feel terrific because when you say something everybody in the team must listen to you because you are the one who stay with the patients and charts almost 24 hours. In order to do that you have to be good at communation.
Once you have your basic goal which is IELTS band 6.5 and band 7 in speaking that is enougt to start working and staying in an the US. In order to do that you have to take everything seriously and start doing that right now such as attending English classes, reading English materials, listening to Englihs programmes. Thinks like this, every thing that you do must lead to your goal. It takes time, you have two years from now before your NCLEX expires.Even though you get Visa Screen Cert. doesn't mean you can stop learning English. It just the first step for new immigrant. you have to learn and assimilate to american culturs that make you life easier and more fun overhere. For now, I have been learning how to use either bad or good american slang in order to make friends or enemies whatever, I want.
Once you pass the English score or have Visa Screen Cert. USSI or others agencies can sponsor you an immigrant visa (without extra payment) to stay and work in here. This is a excellent thing I alway feel grateful to Pronurse AJ Wandee, her verry big family, her staff and USSI for all their help. At that time I paid only 20,000 bath for NCLEX classes. I have a job, I have money to pay bills, rent and support my parents, I have Green Card, I have everything that I want overhere because of them and I own them thank you.
Let move to short term plan. To speed up the process and if you have enoug money to stay here for a while, you have to try to get tourish visa to come here. If EB3 is available, unfortunately, it is not available at this time. and after staying here for 60 days, USSI can sponsor you a green card. While you file is on process to get approve for GC, you gonna get work permit in a few weeks first. When you get a work permit you gonna get SSN, CA license. One you get license you can find a job overhere. This is a key point. in order to get a job you have to pass interview.
Fortunately, many employers they have khown that as long as you have CA license, work permit. you are qualified to work for them and they are willing to get you with at least two reason one you are a cheapest labour from the third world( in my hospital Non- experienced nurse in the US or new graduated , a registry nurse or an experienced nurse = $340-400 ,550-780 add $3 for shift differrential respectively ) . Another reason is they strongly believe in there educational training system. this is a core philosophy of american culture. they belive man can be moldable. Since I have been working here I have been trained in many programmes . Not only can learn something new but you get paid as well. that is the reason why I love to be molded.
As long as USSI sponsors you and have sent visa Screen Cert. you can work an much as you want Don't worry about anything just enjoy your life and assimilate to new cultures. Your Green Card will be approved in 8-24 months after sending application and Visa Screen Cert. Normally, Many nurses in the US who keep working hard , paying tax and being a good girl. as long as you don't kill anybody. One day, Green Card was sent to their mail box even they have not Visa Screen.People who have worked hard shoud get reward right! but don't depend on that you have to do your best first.
You can see that everthing could happen here. One thing that I have learnt is as long as you keep paying tax, they gonna love you, welcome you to be thier Cititzen.
Event though you pay income tax alot, you gonna get back later for example a convenient free way, safety, reliable social benefits. I have one example, my freinds who got accidence with her hand and need resting a few mont, she stil get paid without working, wow excellent.
I feel glade every time i here that nurses have worked hard and done many things to realize their dream and get better life overhere. On the other hand I feel frustrated when somebody gives up easily.
I hope that this strory encourage you to work hard, be optimistic and keep moving forward. Some day in foreseeable future you gonna be great ,you gonna be fine and you gonna be happy like me.
