Hi! Pronurse students and A. Wandee.
My name is Anusorn Sukkharom, I graduated from Mahidol University and attended NCLEX at Pronurse sponsoring by USSI since October last year. I have been working at Whittier Hospital Medical Center ICU Dept.
First of all, I would like to say "Congratulations" to Pronurse students who just passed NCLEX. I am looking forward to seeing and working with you guys soon.
I have some pictures taking at my workplace after probation, I hope that you are inspried by this, it can be clearly seen that I am a one of their team not a stranger from Thailand anymore.
The first three months are the toughest time for me who starts working in the new place, the new country, There are a ton of paperworks, new policies, new protocols that keep coming to me and everything need to be done in 12 hours. I alway feel that I need more than twelve hour to finish its. At the beginning, I discouraged from doing this. It took me four weeks to get through it.
One day I came up with an idea that I have worked hard and done many things to come here geting a job in this country and now I got it why I am not happy with it. In order to keep my job to get money and survive, I started doing everthing to reach their standad or to meet their expectation and to prove that Thai nurses are equiped with strongly nursing knowledges. I kept telling them that I haven't command english now, doesn't mean I couldn't work, just give me a chance. I will improve myself everyday, I am eager learn how to work in the English speaking workplace under the same nursing principle basis.
Eventaully, after three months , the Director came to me and said somthing like " Andy, we don't care who you are, where you come from, you have proved that you can work and you are our team you met our expectation and welcome aboard.
More importantly,I see that there are a ton of nursing jobs in this country waiting for us to get it. Many hospital are welcome and willing to offer a job. I think, Thai people, particularly,Thai nurse have something special such as we never ever give up, we love working hard but we aren't hardly work,we are industrious and we keep smiling in any circumstances either bad or good that can melt American' heart easily. Both in the workplace and personal life. When they love you, you will get whatever you want and when you make a mistake. they are ready to forgive you.
Last but not least, this is for a nurse who has a goal and want to realize your dream. The first and the key step is NCLEX, I know it takes time but don't take so long because you are a nurse you have many things in you head. you just need some specific information to pass the exam so attend the class, pass it as soon as you can. While you are waiting for eligibility to take the test, in the mean time, you have to prepare youselve ready for the test. NCLEX should be finished in six-eight months. Think like this, you have the best tutor school in town, you have exceptional teachers and Pronurse have prove that they have helped nurses passed the exam. Many people can do it why don't you.
Next step is moving to English, from my working experience, in order to get a job, you have to pass interview, absolutely in English. there is nothing new in the interview. Before they call you to set interview. you are qualified, you are an outstanding nurse and you are eager to work that the reason why they are interested in you. However They just want to make sure that you can communicate with doctors, patients, families, co-workers,others hospitals and bla..bla.. bla. If you feel scared, it is good. it is not too late to start attending English classes. I recommend IELTS classes. Commanding English is something that you can't change overnight. It takes time I know.
I have learnt that English is never ending learning process but to reach certain standards you need Band 6.5-7 in IELTS that enough for a nurse who is going to work here. This score means you can communicate in daily basis that enough for new commer. When you come and stay here you will have a good chance to improve listening and speaking if you try to expose to native speaker, the more you expose to them the better english you have.
Once, you have NCLEX, you have a confidence in communication. you are a promissing nurse and ready to work in the US, you can come here by tourish Visa and waiting for work permit, SSN, California license, setting interview. Meanwhile, you have a great opportunity to assimilate in american cultures such as how to get driver license( I can tell you, it is easy to get one even Grandma Maxican can pass it one time), getting cell phone, taking a bus or subway, getting bank account, getting a credit card( you need it in order to build credit score, you could not rent an apartment, buy a house, buy a car with a good deal without a credit score. If you would like to stay here for good, it a must)
I strongly believe that you gonna have fun overhere. You are going to get whatever you want. you will get money if you want money, you will get experiences if you would like to or you can persue your higher educations if you are avid leaner, there are a lot of schools you can enroll some class, and If you would like to have someone to fulfill your empty life, there are a million good and bad looking guys out there, believe me you will be surrounded with handsome guys because they consder Thai girls so beautiful(in their eye) so lovely and so nice. Yes, we are, Right! , pick some good ones that fit your type.
I encourage you to work hard and hang in there, don't quit easily because the winner never quit, the quiter never win.
If you don't know how to start or how to solve your problems let start with the proverb" There is a will, there is a way" Have you had a will and have you found a way, ask A. Wandee. Bye Andy
